concretas como falta de concentración,
desinterés académico y bajo rendimiento
escolar, afectando el proceso educativo en su
conjunto.

Abstract
The habitual use of technology in social and
everyday life has profoundly transformed
educational dynamics. The present study aimed
to examine the negative impact of the misuse
of Information and Communication
Technologies (ICT) on the learning of sixth-
grade students in an educational institution in
Guayaquil during the year 2025. The research
involved 35 sixth-grade students and utilized a
survey technique, applying a structured
questionnaire composed of 21 questions. The
analysis of results shows that the inappropriate
use of ICT negatively affects the learning of
sixth-grade students. According to the data
obtained, 26% of the students exhibit a high
level of excessive use of electronic devices,
which directly influences their ability to
concentrate. In addition, 29% report a high
level of internet dependency, which reduces
their academic interest. Regarding the use of
social media, 26% of the students report
frequent distraction, which impacts their
academic performance. On the other hand, 40%
of the students believe that their academic
performance is not affected by these variables.
This could be due to a limited perception of the
consequences of constant ICT use, or because
some students have developed strategies for a
more balanced use. However, the data show
that more than 70% fall into medium or high
levels of impact, indicating a widespread trend
of negative influence on learning. The results
identify three key factors contributing to this
impact: excessive device use, internet
dependency, and distraction caused by social
media. Prolonged use of cell phones, tablets, or
other devices disrupts sustained attention and
limits the development of study habits. The
immediate search for answers on the internet
reduces critical thinking and intellectual
autonomy, while social media fragments focus
and promotes constant distraction. These
practices result in concrete consequences, such
as lack of concentration, academic disinterest,
and low academic performance, affecting the
educational process as a whole. Learning is
weakened both cognitively and emotionally, as
students lose motivation, become frustrated
with complex tasks, and increasingly depend
on brief and constant digital stimuli. In
conclusion, the misuse of ICT represents a real
and growing obstacle in the teaching-learning
process. Therefore, it is necessary to implement
pedagogical strategies that promote a critical
and responsible use of technology, in order to
enhance learning and prevent its harmful
effects on academic performance.
